Christ Church Oxford Meadow Bench
Oxford Oak were commissioned by Christ Church Oxford to make a new bench for Christ Church Meadows. These Grade 1 listed meadows form a beautiful tranquil leafy green space in Oxford city centre.
The Meadow Bench has been designed to sit harmoniously within the vast open landscape of the Meadows, with a contemporary minimal design, generous proportions and a low profile. Constructed in oak, with traditional mortice and tenon joints held together with oak pegs. The top of the seat is subtly curved to shed rainwater. Galvanised stand-offs and robust proportions are designed for longevity.
The hand carved inscription is by Brian Hempsted, of Hand Cut Signs.
We installed it earlier this week with much appreciated help and guidance from Head Gardener John James and his team.
If you’re in Oxford and would like to test it out, the Meadow Bench can be found along the Cherwell Path, next to the Jubilee Bridge. From here you can enjoy views along the River Cherwell, and over the Meadows to the historic Christ Church buildings. Seats six.
