Aftercare

All street furniture requires regular maintenance.

Oak

Our street furniture has been built to minimise maintenance, through the use of naturally durable oak, generously proportioned beams, and details which help shed rain water.

Oak is naturally durable, so it doesn’t require any protective treatments. Over time, our street furniture will naturally weather to an attractive silver grey colour.

Cleaning

We recommend an annual clean with water and a stiff brush or nylon scouring pad to remove any dirt and debris. Do not use a jet wash or wire wool as this will damage the oak. Graffiti can normally be removed by careful sanding when the timber is dry.

Splinters

The oak is seasoned specifically to suit outdoor use. However, as a natural material, it may be affected by seasonal variations in humidity, causing shrinking and expansion, which can result in small cracks or splinters.

Check seats for any cracks or splinters. Remove any splinters, and sand with 100 grit sandpaper to leave a smooth finish.

Bolts and Screws

Seasonal variations in humidity can make bolts and screws come loose. We therefore recommend annually checking fixings on our all benches and pergolas that use these.

Storage

All our oak products should be stored covered, in shade outdoors, whilst awaiting installation.

Steel

Steel bench bases should require no maintenance other than a yearly check on condition.

Bolts and Screws

Seasonal variations in humidity can make bolts and screws come loose. We therefore recommend annually checking fixings on our all benches and pergolas that use these.
