Memorial Benches:
Oxford Preservation Trust, Boars Hill
It was a great pleasure to be commissioned by Oxford Preservation Trust to make two oak memorial benches for the Old Berkely Golf Course in Boars Hill. Located near the top of the beautiful open grassland slopes, the benches provide wonderful views across rolling countryside to the spires of the city of Oxford.
OPT wanted benches that would work with the large scale of the site, but not be visually intrusive. They selected a Northways bench, for its large scale and minimalist design, and an Alex bench with a backrest. The meadow is grazed by sheep and cattle, so the benches were made with thicker elements to provide extra robustness.

We added Oxford Preservation Trust’s new logo with a mixture of hand carving for the large “O”, and laser etching for the small text. The memorial inscriptions were hand carved.

The benches were installed with much appreciated assistance from Hannah Brockwell, Green Spaces Officer at OPT, together with the two families who were sponsoring the benches in memory of family members.
